Today it was a 39c or 102 f degree day, I was outside hanging the washing at about 1:00 pm when I saw my dog go under some small trees. I then hear a loud squeaking noise, I thought she had found a baby black bird (because they had been nesting in my yard) but when I followed her in a hurry I realised she had found a little ring-tailed possum.

So I grabbed her and moved her away while picking up the little possum, luckily the possum had put itself in the corner of two fences joining together and a branch had stopped my dog from being able to get it.

I took it inside and places in a shoebox with a face washer to lay in and waited about 40 minutes before giving it some water with a syringe, it was also lucky that it was just big enough to eat solids so after the second lot of water I gave it some apple about an hour after I first gave it some water.

I will be caring for it until my mum gets back and then we will take it to a rehabilitation centre or a vet if we cannot find a centre. For the next few hours I will be a mother possum and do everything from feeding it to "toileting" it.

I will also try to get some good of him photos for DA  (I think it's a boy from what I saw).
